How To Make A Balloon Garland
Keep reading for tips on how to make your own balloon arch as well as some of our favorite supplies to include in your balloon garland kit:
Use Latex Balloons And Different Sizes
When you’re planning a party, the details matter. You’ll want to choose a color scheme that compliments your location, the theme of your party, and the colors of your decorations. Play around with a few shades in order to choose your balloon colors.
You’ll also want to make sure you use latex balloons and at least three different sizes when you are creating your balloon arch.
But before you rush out and buy any old balloons for your next event, consider investing in high quality balloons. Not only will you get the best results, but you’ll also avoid the frustration and hassle of dealing with popped balloons.
You can plan different patterns such as rainbow or ombre effect. This technique involves gradually changing the color of your balloons from one shade to another. It’s a great way to create a dramatic look that will make your event stand out from the rest. Lay out your balloons first to make sure you’re getting them in the right order.
Pro Tip: Rose gold is the on-trend color this season, perfect for a bridal shower, anniversary parties, or even a corporate event. Mix It up with burgundy and gold balloons.
Electric Balloon Inflator
What do you do if you don’t have a friend or family member who can help you blow up all of those balloons? Don’t worry – I’ve got the perfect solution for you! Just get an electric pump (also known as a compressor) to help you inflate your balloons quickly and easily, but if you don’t have time to purchase a pump, I would at least try to find a hand balloon pump. You may be surprised at how much time it can save you.
Balloon Tape
Let me share with you the secret ingredient to any balloon arch kit. Have you ever seen those beautiful, giant balloon arches and wondered how in the world they make them? It’s actually a lot simpler than you might think. All you need is some balloon arch tape and a little bit of creativity.
Balloon tape is basically what holds the shape of your balloon piece, keeps them in place so they don’t float away and makes creating the arch so easy.
Follow this Strip tutorial to create your balloon arch without using helium, a frame or even having to tie balloon clusters.
- Take the decorating strip and push each balloon knot one by one into the holes. I recommend going with the double-hole type. The larger hole makes it easier to pull the knot of the balloons through, and the smaller hole secures it firmly.
- Alternate between small balloons and larger balloons to get the staggered effect. Also alternate between the sides of the strip to make a fuller arch.
A balloon garland strip is easy to use and can be customized to fit your party theme. So, whether you are a beginner or an experienced balloon arch maker, these tips are for you!
Fishing Line
A different way to put your balloons together is by using a fishing line. First, you’ll have to cut the fishing line to the desired length.
Next, tie the fishing line around one of the balloons and knot tightly a few times to secure it in place.
Repeat this process with the next balloon or handful of balloons and pull the fishing line away while pushing the balloons together.
Finally, connect the balloons to each other by tying the fishing line around the stems of each balloon. Be sure to leave at least 1 ft at the end of the fishing line for hanging.
Command Hooks
If you’re like me, I know you don’t want to damage your walls in the process of setting up your balloon arch. Luckily, command hooks are an easy way to hang your balloon arch without having to worry about putting any holes in your wall. Plus, they come off cleanly without any residue.
Here’s how to do it:
- Decide where you want to hang your balloon arch.
- Measure the height of the space.
- Cut a piece of string or twine that length.
- Attach one end of the string/twine to a command hook and then attach the other end to one of the balloons.
- Hang your balloon arch!
Another alternative for supporting a balloon arch is with hoops and frames. They come in all shapes and sizes and can be coordinated with any color scheme.
Plus, they’re easy to set up and take down, making them perfect for last-minute parties. These dreamy decorations are simple to make, but look incredibly elegant. The number of balloons you need depends how much of the circle you want to cover.
- Start by tying two balloons together to create a cluster.
- Next twist two clusters together to make a quad cluster of 4 balloons.
- Finally, take one balloon and cross it, and twist over the frame securing it to the frame.
Don’t have a metal hoop or frame? Don’t worry, you can always try to make your own with hula hoops.
Glue Dots
The new hot item for balloon decorations is glue dots. They are a great way to attach the smaller balloons into the garland and fill in any gaps or just to simply adhere balloons to the wall in order to hold the shape in place. You can also use a low temp glue gun; it works really well and lasts the longest!
Ribbon In Complimentary Colors and Helium Balloons
One of my favorite ways to decorate for birthday parties is with balloon bouquets. There are many different design options for a balloon bouquet depending on the space you are decorating.
They’re ideal for table centerpieces, and when used in combination with a balloon arch, they can really make a big impact on your birthday celebration.
You can use helium balloons in all sorts of fun and creative ways to create your bouquet, and it’s a great alternative to traditional party décor. Plus, renting helium tanks is easy and affordable.
Pro Tip: Helium-filled giant balloons can be used to create a stylish dessert table backdrop when anchored down with balloon weights. You can also use regular ones to create a ‘wall of balloons’ backdrop.
Here are some common questions that come up when the day of the party is approaching:
How long will the balloon arch stay up?
If it’s a helium filled arch, it’s best to do it on the day of the event. Helium filled balloons only float well for about 10 to 12 hours.
Latex balloons inflated with air will stay fully inflated for several days to weeks, depending on the environment. Store the inflated balloons in a clean plastic bag that closes tightly over the balloons. Otherwise, the balloons will oxidize and lose their shape and shiny surface.
How to keep air-filled balloons from deflating?
Store the balloons in a cool, dry room. Heat and humidity can cause the balloons to expand and burst. Avoid exposing the balloons to strong sunlight or sharp objects, as this can also cause them to burst. With these tips in mind, you can ensure a safe and happy celebration!
How many balloons for a balloon arch?
The number of balloons you need for your balloon arch will depend on the type of balloon arch you have in mind and the size of the balloons. Now, to figure out the size of the balloon arch you want to build, measure the height and width of the area where it will be displayed.
Pro Tip: Add accessories to the balloon arch such as fresh flowers. Not only will these blooms add a splash of color and vibrancy, but they’ll also make your party look even more special.
If you love getting crafty, with some paper flowers and a little imagination, you can also create an eye-catching party display on a budget! And now that spring is in the air, thoughts turn to decorating for Easter and other springtime festivities.
Cheerful Easter colors, spring flowers such as lilies and tulips, and cute Easter crafts, the possibilities for Easter flower arrangements are endless. So, before you dive in, gather some inspiration. This will help you determine what’s needed for your balloon creation.
Balloons are a party must-have, but sometimes it’s hard to think of new and exciting ways to use them. There are some cool and simple balloon ideas that can be put together in minutes with no additional cost. Just to give you an example, have you ever considered using PVC pipe to create balloon columns?
They add a lot of visual interest to any space and can be adorned with everything from stars to palm fronds. Plus, you can use a zip tie to attach balloons to the PVC pipe. A simple and inexpensive way that works like a charm.
To make the process as simple as possible, gather your scissors, string/wire and all the balloons ready on hand.
Get started planning your next party today! And don’t forget to include your balloon arch. Happy decorating!
