Can I Use A Glass Bowl In My Air Fryer?
If you are looking for all the possibilities of how to use your air fryer, you’re in the right place. As the air fryer is a relatively new kitchen appliance, you may be wondering if your glass containers or oven-safe glass bowl will also work inside an air fryer.
As long as your glass bowl or cookware is oven-safe, then yes, you can use it in your air fryer. Please keep in mind that an air fryer changes temperature much faster than a traditional oven. The rapid increase in temperature from an air fryer may damage your glassware. However, if your glassware is oven-safe, I recommend you try it in your air fryer without food at the maximum temperature and use caution as glassware is not specifically designed to be used in an air fryer.
Now that we’ve answered the main question, let’s look at some other questions that are frequently asked about glass bowls being used in the air fryer.
How To Check If My Glassware Is Oven Safe?
The easiest and most simple way to check is to look for a manufacturer stamp of an oven-safe symbol, or writes the words “oven-safe” onto the glassware. You can usually find this on the bottom of the glassware.

If you happen to know the manufacturer of your glassware, the best way to check is to look on their website to see if your glassware is an ovenproof dish. Another good idea is to check on the company’s social media page and simply as a question as to whether or not your glassware is safe for oven use.
Besides those tips, you might want to consider that most oven-safe glass cookware is made at over 1000°F. Luckily with an air fryer, it won’t reach that temperature, however, you should be aware of the safety risks and test your glass cookware several times in your air fryer without food at the highest temperature to know whether it is safe to use or not.
You should note that if the manufacturer doesn’t state that your glassware is an oven-safe glassware, you use it in your air fryer at your own risk.
Use caution: Never put an oven-safe glass bowl right into your air fryer immediately after it has been in the refrigerator or in the freezer. The rapid temperature changes can destroy even the most durable oven-safe glass and is highly not recommended. Just don’t do it 🙂
Note: In this blog post, we are talking about glass cookware bowls that are intended for the oven, not glassware containers where you store leftover food or use for lunch. These types of glassware containers are usually not oven-safe and the high temperature from the air fryer will likely ruin your glassware if you try using one that isn’t oven-safe.
Does Glassware Work Well In An Air Fryer?
Depending on the type of glassware you have, it depends on how well it will work in an air fryer. The air fryer’s basket has one important component to it – the air flow. Because of this, the air fryer relies heavily on the circulation of hot air to cook the food. You don’t want to block this circulation as it won’t cook your food thoroughly.
An air fryer works by allowing air to easily pass through your food to cook it thoroughly. That’s why there are holes in your air fryer to allow your food to cook and come out nice and crispy.
Therefore in my opinion, if your glass cookware doesn’t have open grooves, it probably won’t do a good job of cooking your food thoroughly as the glass bowl will be blocking the flow of air.
So I guess the real question is, should you be using a glass bowl in the air fryer at all? Probably not as it won’t cook your food the way you’d like it to.
What Cookware Can Be Used In The Air Fryer?
There are actually some foods that can be cooked in your air fryer using certain types of cookware. Believe it or not, you can actually bake a cake in an air fryer (yes, a cake!)
When deciding if you need a solid cooking pan for your recipe whether you’re using glassware or not, keep in mind about the air flow. Make sure that the cookware you are using allows good air circulation so your food will properly cook.
The best thing to do is to make sure that your cookware doesn’t completely fill up the air fryer. You will need to make sure there is enough space on the side of air fryer basket so the air can flow around easily.
What Are Some Alternatives?
I’m assuming that one of the reasons you want to use a glass bowl in the air fryer is to cook a large amount of food at once, or simply for the sake of convenience. It depends on the types of food you are planning to cook in your air fryer. If you plan to bake a cake, then you will need the type of cookware we mentioned above, such as a solid cooking pan for cakes.
The best option is to use metal wire racks inside the air fryer’s basket. Using metal racks inside your air fryer basket will allow the food to cook thoroughly as the air can flow freely from the bottom of the basket upwards.
Some manufacturing companies that make air fryers offer their own wire rack accessories. You can check their website or even by clicking here to check out some amazing deals. Below is an example of one of the many wire racks available on websites like Amazon.
Another alternative that I use is that I place a piece of aluminum foil inside the air fryer and place the rack underneath the tin foil. You can also opt to use parchment paper if you choose. It can sometimes be a pain to clean your airfryer without something underneath it. I’ve cooked many meals in my air fryer with this method. I’ve also made delicious air fryer french fries without fail as well.

Are Air Fryers Different?
One important factor to note is that all air fryers are not created equal. The air fryer temperature will vary for different recipes and the various sizes that are on the market today. When you are looking for the best choice when there are many to choose from, keep these points in mind.
The brand – I like name-brand items. They stand the test of time and they have a reputation to back it up. As many air fryer brands as there are on Amazon, if it doesn’t have thousands of 5 star reviews, I won’t buy it and I opt for a name brand I use and trust.
Maximum temperature – You want to make sure your air fryer can cook food thoroughly. There is nothing worse than having uncooked food with guests coming over for dinner and your meal not turning out right.
Cooking process – Is it just an air fryer that you’re looking for? What about the air fryer having a roasting option? How long does it take to cook some of your favorite meals? I like to understand the cooking process and if there are other options that I may like to have when I make my purchase.
Another important aspect to consider is to make sure that you’re getting all of your “must-haves” on your list. Ask yourself, why is it important to have an air fryer? Is it because I want to eat less fat in my meals? Am I trying to get healthy? Do I want to cook meals quicker to save on time? Make sure your must-haves are ticked when you’re deciding on purchasing an air fryer.
Are Ceramic Bowls Air Fryer Safe?
Yes, ceramic cookware and ceramic plates are safe to put in your air fryer. They are made to withstand high heat. You can use ramekins as well as long as they are oven-safe.
Can I Put Aluminum Foil In An Air Fryer?
A common question I get asked quite a bit is if it is safe to put aluminum foil or parchment paper in the air fryer. Yes, it is safe to do so and I use foil quite often in my air fryer when I’m making delicious recipes.
What Can I Not Put In An Air fryer?
Though you can cook many food items in an air fryer, there are some cookware items that you just don’t want to use in your air fryer. You don’t want to ruin your valuable cookware items by experimenting with them in the air fryer.

Unfortunately, using steel materials in the air fryer is not a good idea. Stainless steel bowls do not do well in extreme heat and using that type of bowl in your air fryer may cause toxic chemicals to leak into your food particles. We definitely don’t want that! So steer clear of steel materials and bowls in the air fryer!
