Half Moon Bay Luxury Hotels

When it comes to luxury, there are typically only a handful of hotels that come to mind when planning a weekend escape to Half Moon Bay. If you are looking for a romantic getaway, a beautiful view with golf courses to explore and local wines to indulge in, you’ve come to the right place. In this post, we’ll walk through some of the best luxury hotels in Half Moon Bay.

Where Is Half Moon Bay?

Located only 45 minutes south of San Francisco and an hour from San Jose, Half Moon Bay is in between both cities. There is usually traffic coming from either city, so I advise you leave early to avoid the traffic.

To get to Half Moon Bay from San Francisco, drive down Highway 280 South to Highway 1 until you reach the beaches at Half Moon Bay.

To get to Half Moon Bay from San Jose, hop on Highway 280 North to Highway CA-92 West, which will lead you right into Half Moon Bay.

Tip: To avoid traffic, a local secret is to head north onto Highway 280 to avoid Highway CA-92 altogether (depending on your route). Highway CA-92 is a one lane highway and takes an extremely long time to reach Half Moon Bay (trust me, I know). Head north on Highway 280 and cross over into Pacifica and drive down the coast. The views are amazing and totally worth the detour.

Getting To Half Moon Bay

If you’re flying into town, the nearest airport is the San Francisco International Airport, which about a half hour away from half Moon Bay, depending on traffic conditions.

If you’re coming from LA, you can drive up Highway 101 for a scenic route, or the I-5 for the quickest route. It typically takes around 6 hours to drive from LA to Half Moon Bay.

Weather In Half Moon Bay

Half Moon Bay’s weather is a thing of its own. It never really gets below or above 60°F – ish.

It’s definitely not a bad thing as Half Moon Bay is an experience in itself. Don’t expect sunny LA weather when traveling to HMB.

The weather is pretty consistent and mild. I’d advise bringing a sweater or light jacket during your stay.

Spring and fall are usually quite clear in HMB with the warmest temperatures in the forecast. Winter is cool and crisp with some rain usually being in the forecast.

Visiting in the fall? Half Moon Bay is home to some amazing pumpkin patches and I highly recommend you check them out during your stay in the fall months!

Summer is typically foggy, but it usually clears up by midday. Even when it’s cloudy, Half Moon Bay is one of the most magical places in California and it feels so dreamy whenever I come to visit.

Also known as Devil’s Slide, Gray Whale Cove State Beach is located between Pacifica and Montara, CA. This beach doesn’t allow dogs and is known for its steep cliffs that drop abruptly into the Pacific ocean.
