The Best Air Fryer Brussels Sprouts

For the longest time, I couldn’t find an air fryer brussel sprouts recipe I liked. Making air fryer vegetables always turns basic ingredients into a delicious side dish, and generally, the cooking time is always short and well worth the wait in the kitchen.

When I finally figured out the yummiest air fryer recipe for crispy brussels sprouts, I knew from that point on it was my new favorite way to utilize a stalk of brussels sprouts.

Besides, how much more of a healthy side dish can you cook than some crispy air fryer brussel sprouts. Here at North of Bleu, we love a good, easy recipe, and some roasted brussel sprouts pair nicely with a wide variety of food to compliment your main dish.

How Long Should You Air Fry Brussel Sprouts?

If you’re anything like me, you like to begin eating your meal fast and not have to spend a century in the kitchen! Cook time for crispy air fryer brussel sprouts largely relies on the model of the air fryer you have, as different brands may have separate heating elements and therefore have differing recommended recipes for the same type of food.

That’s why it’s always important to check the user manual for your type of air fryer for the correct air fryer temperatures for crispy sprouts.

Otherwise, I would safely let your food cook at 375 degrees F for 8-10 minutes, or up to 12 minutes as air fryer temperatures do vary. For the best results, shake the air fryer basket full of tender brussels sprouts halfway through cooking.

Do I Need To Cut The Brussel Sprouts?

Prior to cooking, some of the larger sprouts may need to be cut in half or into quarters using a sharp knife to ensure you get the best results. In the event where the size of the sprouts are all relatively small, I typically leave them be.

While these are all great tips, do keep a close eye on the crispy brussels sprouts as they are air frying to ensure they do not burn.

How Do Brussel Sprouts Cook in the Air Fryer?

Be certain that you place brussel sprouts down into the air fryer basket in a single layer and never overcrowd, no matter what size quart air fryer, so that they may cook evenly and hot air can circulate effectively.

Consider your air fryer more of a small convection oven that does the same job as a regular oven, but faster. Slicing large sprouts and shifting them at the halfway mark helps make sure that everything on the baking sheet cooks at the same time, as one common problem many have found with even the best air fryers is uneven cooking.

Nonetheless, by following just these simple steps, your crispy air fryer brussels sprouts should come out cooked to perfection with slightly browned outer layers. In my brussel sprouts recipe, we will toss them in a bit of olive oil to promote that toasty goodness!

Are Brussel Sprouts Healthy?

I’ll be honest and share that growing up, brussel sprouts weren’t my favorite veggie in the world, but in recent years, a lot has changed!

These roasted brussels sprouts are a perfect side dish for low carb and gluten-free diets. They also contain antioxidants that include vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K, calcium, magnesium, fiber, potassium, and phosphorus.

Air Fryer Brussel Sprouts Recipe

Luckily, many of the simple ingredients needed to complete this air fryer brussel sprouts recipe remain inexpensive and are packed with extra flavor.

You’ll need 1 pound of brussels sprouts that are all roughly equal in size, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 1 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar, ½ teaspoon of garlic powder, and  ½ teaspoon each of salt and pepper.

It’s not a lot of ingredients, but it remains an air fryer vegetable recipe that is always a hit with every age group, receiving five star rating from all that are dining!

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 375 degrees F. Wash your produce, removing any outer leaves that have browned or wilted. Dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
  1. In a large bowl, mix the brussels sprouts with one tablespoon of oil at a time, being sure to coat them well. Toss in the seasonings of garlic powder, salt, pepper, and be sure to include your balsamic vinegar as well.
  1. Cook for 8-10 minutes, flipping them halfway through. Add additional time if needed, watching closely.
  1. Sprinkle on any additional salt if you want, allow to cool, and serve the most perfect veggie straight from your air fryer!

Storage Instructions

Always using an airtight container, leftovers will keep in the fridge for up to 4 days. Keeping them frozen in the freezer in an airtight container or bag will keep them good for 2-3 months.

If reheating from frozen, follow the same heating instructions, only be prepared to add more time and expect there to be less crisp.

What To Pair With & Add To Air Fryer Brussel Sprouts

Understandably, many cooks love utilizing their air fryer to its maximum capabilities, and you can surely do that next to such an easy side dish!

Less oil needed for cooking is always the best way to go, so it can be nice to lighten up meals like air fryer chicken breasts, air fryer pork chops, or air fryer salmon.

Parmesan cheese is a great way to put a mouthwatering twist on this air fryer brussels sprouts recipe. Two minutes before your food is done, sprinkle the cheese on and shake to combine, then place back into the air fryer for parmesan brussels sprouts.

Cheese isn’t the only great addition; try also adding lemon juice, lime juice, minced garlic, cajun seasoning, pork rind crumbs, or soy sauce. I like adding this vegan cheese to mine.

My opinion is that the best part about this air fryer brussel sprouts recipe is that classic air fryer style of bringing out the taste. You can’t go wrong choosing flavorful, healthy options at mealtime!
