Starbucks Copycat Apple Crisp Macchiato Recipe

Fall is my absolute favorite season and with it comes Starbucks Apple Crisp Macchiato on their fall menu. I don’t know if I love it more because it comes default as a vegan drink, or if it’s the amazing taste of apple cider, cinnamon and coffee blended into a smooth and creamy cup of coffee.

This is by far my favorite fall drink and I’ve made this recipe with simple ingredients, less syrup, and more wholesome goodness so you can indulge guilt-free with this amazing macchiato, which can be made as an iced version or as a hot drink to keep you toasty during the cooler fall months.

Apple Crisp Oatmilk Macchiato Starbucks Copycat Recipe

I live in California, and with that being said, pumpkins are king around here and a pumpkin spice latte is on every menu at every coffee shop during the fall season.

I’m not a fan of pumpkin and it saddens me that virtually no other coffee shop besides Starbucks, has an apple cider drink on their menu.

I’m from Michigan, home of the apple orchards and apple cider donuts, so I was thrilled when Starbucks added their new Apple Crisp Oatmilk Macchiato to their fall menu. I was delighted to say the least.

It has a touch of spiced apple drizzle, brown sugar syrup, oatmilk, a couple shots of espresso and viola! You have your new fall favorite drink.

In this recipe, I will show you how to make an apple macchiato that tastes like Starbucks and can be ready in as little as 20 minutes.

What Is In An Apple Crisp Macchiato?

According to the Starbucks menu, the following ingredients are included in the apple crisp macchiato drink:

  • Oatmilk
  • Brewed espresso
  • Apple brown sugar syrup
  • Spiced apple drizzle

The drink is pretty simple, it’s just that the syrup is filled with sugars and the apple drizzle is filled with natural flavors.

If you’re wanting to make this drink healthy, I have a few suggestions which I will mention below in the recipe. If you’re just looking to cut on calories, I like to use this syrup to give me a great tasting flavor with very little calories.

In my recipe card, you’ll get a simple recipe made with simple ingredients and less sugar. So it’s a win-win when it comes to taste and indulgent.

Is Starbucks Apple Crisp Macchiato seasonal?

This delicious drink is perfect hot or iced and is available seasonal only at Starbucks. It’s a perfect blend of brown sugar apple syrup and a shot of espresso to create an amazing fall drink.

I personally love the hot version and I haven’t tried the iced apple crisp macchiato yet, but they are equally delicious and full of flavor.

Is the Apple Crisp Macchiato Vegan?

Yes! This ultimate fall drink is vegan by default and comes with oat milk. You can substitute for almond milk or your favorite cold milk for this drink.

What does the Apple Crisp Macchiato taste like?

This amazing new drink has a crisp apple flavor with a hint of apple pie spice. If you love apple pie, fall apple flavors and caramelized sugar, you will love this drink at first sip. It is amazing, especially with the creamy oat milk on top.

Should You Stir A Macchiato?

A macchiato is a layered drink and typically they aren’t stirred. When I order my hot apple crisp macchiato, I don’t stir it. It looks pretty and I just love the aesthetics of it.

With this being said, you can stir it. It’s just that the general idea is to indulge in the layers of flavor in the drink. In my easy recipe, you can make this as an iced macchiato or as a hot drink, and add it to your list of fall favorites to try throughout the season.

Does Apple Crisp Macchiato tastes like coffee?

It has subtle flavors of apple and a traditional macchiato with creamy milk and warm apple pie mixed into one amazing drink. If you love apples, apple pie, caramelized-spiced apple drizzle and a a shot of espresso, you’ll love this drink.

Starbucks Apple Crisp Macchiato Copycat Recipe Variations

One great thing about this recipe is that you can make variations to make this drink your own. Whether that’s adding cold brew coffee instead of an espresso shot, or using regular milk instead of non-dairy milk, this recipe is pretty flexible when it comes to variations. Below are some variation ideas you can try:

  • Try adding vanilla extract to bring out the apple flavor and to add a hint of sweetness and spice to your drink
  • Drizzle caramel sauce on top for added sweetness
  • Use almond milk or soy milk instead of oat milk
  • Top with a creamy vegan whipped cream like this one for added creaminess

Apple Crisp Macchiato Recipe Ingredients

First, you’ll need to make the apple syrup. This recipe will make more than what is needed for this recipe, but you can store the rest for later. I like to freeze my leftovers in a silicone ice cube tray because it is the perfect size for a serving of one per ice cube. You won’t have to keep refreezing unnecessarily.

I tried this recipe but I used instant coffee. Mine came out a little bitter, but I guess because it wasn’t freshly brewed?

    1. Hey Cate, thanks for your question! I haven’t tried this recipe with instant coffee, but I can imagine it might taste a bit bitter depending on how much coffee you used and the brand. I’ve tried it with brewed coffee and espresso and it tastes best in my opinion with either of those options. Hope this helps!
